Hamilton Memorial Hospital District (HMHD) will host a “Pink Friday” celebration on Friday, July 23, 2010.  “Pink Friday” is a day we have chosen to honor the more than 30 breast cancer survivors from Hamilton County and also unveil our new digital mammography unit” said Genia Nelson, Director of Radiology with HMHD.  “We are urging everyone in attendance to wear pink clothing in support and celebration of our local breast cancer survivors.”

“The Radiology Department has a full day of activities planned on this day and we want to invite the public to attend and help us celebrate our survivors” said Nelson.  “We will have an open house and provide tours of our new Radiology Department between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on this day.  There will also be gifts provided to the survivors in attendance and educational materials highlighting the importance of annual mammograms will be available to members of the public” Nelson added.

“There is a large framed Breast Cancer Awareness picture in the Radiology Department and numerous breast cancer survivors from the area have came in and signed it as a testament to their victory over breast cancer and as an encouragement to others to get an annual mammogram” said Nelson.

“We are mailing flyers about “Pink Friday” to all Hamilton Memorial mammography patients and special invitations have been mailed to survivors, area physicians and local businesses” said Nelson.  “We have been blessed to have a couple of organizations step up and help with this event.  Susan G. Komen For the Cure, Greater Evansville Affiliate and Fuji Medical have helped sponsor “Pink Friday” and as a result, we will have a light lunch for those attending between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and cake and punch will be served throughout the day” added Nelson.

“Our goal of Pink Friday is to take this time to celebrate our local breast cancer survivors and encourage all women in our area to get an annual mammogram” said Nelson.  “With the addition of our new digital mammography unit, residents of Hamilton County and the surrounding area have access to the latest technology available for mammograms and we want to assure that every woman in our area gets this vital screening done on an annual basis.”
