Medical Lab Technologist

  • • Graduate from an accredited MLT program.• Must be able to perform all procedures in Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Serology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Toxicology, Blood Bank, Specimen Collection, and Clerical section.
  • • Must work in any assigned department when requested.
  • • Must maintain work environment in compliance with OSHA and CLIA standards.

• Must be able to perform routine preventative maintenance procedures on all automated and non-automated equipment. • Must be able to operate the various pieces of automated and non-automated equipment associated with each of the departments in a safe manner. • Must be able to evaluate specimen quality, media, reagents standards, and result of quality control; assess validity of lab results, recognize errors, and implement corrective action under the supervision of assistant lab administrator, lab administrator, or medical director. • Responsible for working knowledge of procedures for sending out specimens, preparing reagents and cleaning of equipment and another laboratory apparatus. • Responsible for quality control; documentation of corrective action and inventory recording system under the supervision of a section chief or the laboratory directors. Must actively participate in laboratory QC programs. • Successfully performs phlebotomy and arterial punctures on patients of all ages. • Manage adverse patient reactions to phlebotomy and arterial puncture. Is also familiar with geriatric and pediatric care. • Performs all procedures offered in house by the Laboratory. • May be required to work any shift, weekends and holidays. • Is rarely sick or absent from work. • Must have the ability to think clearly and make logical decisions in emergency situations. • Must have the ability to promote effective written/verbal communication. • Must be in good health and demonstrate emotional stability, able to perform the tasks involving physical activity and moving intermittently throughout he work day. Maintains confidentiality of patient information per policy and procedure. • Promotes harmonious relationships and favorable attitudes among the health care team. • Conforms to the hospital dress code. • Maintain harmonious working relationships with members of other departments. • Computer literacy of laboratory associated programs. • Attends interdepartmental in-services and meetings. • Receives hospital guests, ascertains their needs, and directs them appropriately. • Courteously answers phone and screens or takes messages accurately. • Schedules department services, tech time, physician order, and patient time according to current policies. • Checks phone orders and directs or escorts guests to appropriate location. • Initiates proper forms according to current department procedures for test or service. • Answers routine questions about departmental policies, procedures, and operations. • Checks supplies and keeps room supplied with necessary items. Cleans equipment and controls; requests additional cleaning services as needed. • Participates in continued education and orientation of new technologist. • Serves as a role model for all hospital values including: communication, respect, and patient focus. • Must be willing to work on a scheduled day off and/or be willing to stay over if another employee calls in sick. • Able to check orders, faxes and fix any mistakes seen on a lab order. • May be required to work any shift including weekends or holidays. • Other duties as assigned.
